The Best Thing I've Heard All Week

A brilliant friend of mine called her new boyfriend a 'gentleman savage' on Facebook this week, and it struck a chord in me. It...

Catching UP with Us Meyer's~ January through June 2013 edition: Part 4

I am having fun with this little series while I'm trying valiantly to catch back up so we can move on with a fresh slate. Hope you are, too! This is going to be the random post where I try to squeeze in all the random pics that don't make a post by themselves :) Hang on, here we go!
After Christmas was over, and all the excitement was over...
We started off the New Year with lots of rest since we'd all be sick for so long.
In early January, it actually SNOWED in Cruces (and yes, my child is wearing shorts *sigh*) DT was quite excited about this and enjoyed the snow for the 47 minutes is was on the ground.
Gymnastic season started. David and his pal, Derek seem to have mixed emotions about that,
but David has learned how to soar right over his competition!
Fun days were spent making puzzles, enjoying movies and popcorn and slowly getting back into the swing of things at the Man Crew House.
Tyler's late arriving Christmas gift from PaPa and Grma was a hit!
DT learned the Greek Alphabet. Hurray for homeschooling!
We enjoyed a trip to the local fire department. DT was thrilled with all the buttons and knobs, but saddened that fire stations no longer have dalmatians OR fire poles.
However, all was not lost as the knowledgeable firemen took them for a tour and let them climb all over the truck.
I allowed the BIGS to massacre the sad, squishy pumpkins from the fall with a 4 foot sword. Oh yes, I AM that mom :)
We enjoyed some beautiful weather, with outstanding sunrises and sunsets.
Jodi, James and T spent many hours at the Man Crew House visiting with us and Dad and Mom. T likes Uncle Dan's tickle fights, even though he always loses.
 Gymnastics season continued.
David did well and earned the admiration of his teammates and coaches for his hard work.
He even learned some new BIG tricks, like this one that I magically caught him mid-air.
We hosted a Magic the Gathering card game tournament and had LOTS of fun!
Here are the final standings. The out of town wringer won it all, but the surprising 2nd place went to Dan. I was pleased for him since he had worked and worked and WORKED on his decks all week under the guidance of said out of town wringer.
The Black Ninja came to visit his country cousin the White Ninja and even stopped long enough to mop the floor for me. As if he made any marks ;)
And someone played in the tub too long.
Phew!

Catching UP with Us Meyer's~ January through June 2013 edition: Part 2

Here we go again, trying to catch up on some of the fun things going on at the Man Crew House these past few months. Let's dig into the pictures to remember all the silliness!

January: Patrick turns 14. He's been waiting and anticipating and and and...for so long! And now the day has actually arrived! He's a REAL teenager now because 13 is just a warm up year, dontcha know? :) That's my boy! He enjoyed it all very much. Birthday Game night is always fun, and with PaPa and Grma here for his birthday, how much better could it get?
Hey there Handsome Boy! Thanks for sharing your birthday smile with us!

Oh yes! A short sword, which he has been asking for. Daddy found it and brought it home for him. He was ecstatic!

We even made his favorite meal, Chicken Club Brunch Ring. (thank you Pampered Chef!)
PaPa and Grma gifted Pat with the much asked for iTunes card so he could download a few new apps on his iPod. Woohoo!
Patrick was even kind enough to share the frame with DT. DT was pleased to share the photo op
January: OLLIE! Oliver is the sweet little son of our friends, Ryan and Kelsi. He's just a joy to be around and as you can tell, that's not just me saying that. We all just adore his smiles and spend hours playing with him. Thanks to Ryan and Kelsi for sharing him with us <3 br="">
Ollie gets a shoulder ride from 'Uncle' Dan
Sweet sweet face! I could gobble him up!

Patrick, AKA the Baby Whisperer is just great with Ollie, and the feelings are mutual, I assure you!
January: Mike and Ricky came to visit for a few days! Ricky was honorably discharged from the Navy after his 4 years were up, and he was up in Washington state, so Mike flew out to meet him, and they took the long way home by way of California, New Mexico and THEN home to Illinois. It was great to see them both and the 3 Amigos had TOO much fun goofing off, working on Ricky's car and antique shopping together. Good times! Thanks for coming to see us! And remember, what happens at the Man Crew House, stays at the Man Crew House *winks*
Mike Hanna, my BIL.
Ricky Bean, our adopted nephew from Mike's side of the family

Dan, Ricky and Mike, or as they are better known, the 3 Horsemen of the Apocalypse. :)

So So Behind

Alright people it's official. I'm so far behind on this here blog that I don't even know where to start. A *brief* overview follows.

April~ family trip to Co Springs for Gymnastics Regionals (Utah, NM, CO and WY). David took a place in every event and the all around. We also got to spend a weekend with my niece and her beautiful family. After the regionals, Dan went home to get back to work and I drove with the boys to IL and spent 6 glorious weeks hanging out with friends and family, and helping my Dad recoop from a health issue. (Homeschooling is wonderfully flexible, have I ever mentioned that?) Dad turns 75. Big party for him, which he enjoyed.

May~ First 1/2 of May spent in IL. We arrived home and went back to school. Dan was VERY glad to see us and I was glad that the laptop fairy had visited him while I was gone, LOL! Tyler (nephew) graduated from high school. Said nephew also turned 18 *yippee* Spent most of the rest of May just trying to get settled back in and back to *normal* whatever that is.

June~ More school. Back to work for me. Dan gets laid off from his beloved Wooten job. Joined local CSA, very excited about that : ) Dan refabricates engine for dune buggy. She lives!

July~ Independance Day! School finished for the year during the last week of July. Prepared for niece coming for 2 weeks. Dan gets hired by company called Les File. Really likes it. Dan puts final touches on dune buggy like decals, painted muffler tips, etc.

August~Derek turns 6. Niece comes and spends 2 weeks. MANY adventures (whole blog post about that later) Dan gets laid off by Les File. Jodi spends weekend in Chicago and nephews stay here, much to our boys' delight. Dan busiest unemployed man I know. *amused* Dan buys me a dehydrator and I learn to make beef jerky. Dan repairs damage to dune buggy done by neice, oops *grins* Nephew James turns 9.

Phew. I think that's all the BIG stuff. Coming up is our 15th anniversary, Sister moving closer to us and Dan looking for work, and of course, the start of school in early Sept. Good times!

So Long Summer...and Good Riddance!

My word, it's been a L-O-N-G summer, hasn't it? At our house, it seemed like something bad, upsetting, horrific or traumatizing happened every week. Ugh...make that double ugh! It made me want to sing the little ditty my friend Meredith used to sing, which was adapted and tweaked from Sound of Music...."so long, farewell, good riddance and goodbye!!" So often I wanted to wish away this summer. I just wanted it to be over as quickly as possible so that we could move on to more pleasant things and just forget about the things that we so painful and challenging to us. But the more I thought about it, the more I prayed about it and pondered the issues facing us, the more I was reminded that growth doesn't come in the 'easy' times, when everything is going smoothly, life is simple and times are good. Growth comes when you have no one to depend on but God and each other, when times are tough, money is TIGHT and the car breaks down on the way to work. So, I chose to trust. Sounds simple and easy, doesn't it? I wish I could say that trusting comes easy, but it almost never does. Sometimes you just have to WILL yourself to believe that things are eventually going to be better, or easier or simpler. Or that even if they aren't, God will get you through it. That's the really hard part, is saying, "OK, Lord...you and me are in this until the end. Even if it never gets easier. Even if it never gets better. Even if this is the best that life has to offer me. I'll still trust you to take care of me." Wow, that's HARD! However, I found that if I could find the TINIEST thing to be grateful for on the worst days, then things started to look up. As I look over this long, difficult summer, I can see the hand of the Lord guiding us so easily now. Why is it so hard to see when we are in the midst of it? So...instead of focusing on the negative, I choose to look for the positive. And here are just a few of the highlights of the summer.

  • Dad and Mom have been able to come for 2 extended visits...in one summer!

  • Dolli and Ryan have also been able to come visit twice this summer...and even intend to come back this fall with John after he returns home from his deployment.

  • We moved to a smaller, cheaper house in our first, well thought out, intentional financially wise decision...EVER! We even got a great deal on the rent since the house had/has some cosmetic issues that Dan is fixing right up. Praise God for a handy, hunky hubby!

  • We added a room to said house for practically nothing since Dan got many of the materials from a remodelling job he was doing at work. That's my kind of recycling...less waste, less money spent, less trash in the dump...it's good!

  • David and Patrick made the leap across the chasm that separates the adults from the kids for the first time this summer. You know, the first time you realize that you can have a serious conversation with them and they can respond intelligently, ask appropriate questions and you don't have to worry about them making a ridiculous unrelated remark, laughing about something that's not funny or changing the subject in the middle of an important conversation. That totally blew my mind! The chat ranged from evolution, to why Dan and I weren't intending to have more children, to autism and other special needs, to astronomy, family values and what the Bible says about several other topics. It was a special night indeed!

  • When money was really tight this summer, 'magically' someone would invite us for dinner that week, or clean out their freezer and bring us food. Hmmm.....what a coincidence. I think NOT

  • We have a gorgeous view of the mountains from the back of our house and many is the night that you will find us sitting out there, watching the reflection of the sunset on the mountains, sipping iced tea and just chatting together.

  • We FINALLY found a church here. We, of course, had to find it that hard way, but that's our style. It's an Assembly of God church (yes, I heard the horrified gasp) and although they teach some things we don't believe, they are a Bible preaching, God fearing church and we've made some friends there already. Just more reason to discuss the Bible and what WE believe with the boys if they hear something they aren't sure about.

  • All of the boys have started/are continuing a recreational activity...and all through the lovely world of bartering! David has decided to compete with his gymnastics team this winter, so I work at the gym on Saturdays to earn his PRICEY lessons. Pat is FINALLY in his precious martial arts class and in return for the price of his lessons, I drive the carpool both ways, every time so that his friend Ebone can take classes, too. Derek just started a TumbleBugs class on Saturdays that are 'paid' for by a weekly trip to Sam's Club to stock the concession stand. I {heart} bartering and trading for services!!

  • One of my favorite "coinky-dinks" from this summer just happened last weekend. Most of you don't know this, but Dan got laid off last Thursday and we weren't really sure when he was going to be called back...probably a few weeks or more, so we really just said, 'Lord, you know that Dan needs to be working as soon as possible, so....do Your thing!' The very next day a good friend handed us $400 saying that we've been feeding him and his family for a LONG time and it was time they gave back. What a blessing!! Wait, it gets better : ) 2 days later, an old work buddy of Dan's called and said, "I'm running a job up in Washington and I need you and your welding skills. Can you be here by tomorrow night? Good money, room and board paid for...just get yourself up here. " Would you believe that the amount of money we were given on Friday paid for the ticket on Sunday with just a few cents to spare?? Who said God doesn't provide?

All of that to say that while our summer was HOT, sticky, offensive to our pride, HOT, sometimes stinky and often stressful, irritating to our sense of propriety, HOT, filled with moving, painful losses and quite a bit of heartache, did I mention HOT....maybe it wasn't a complete loss after all. If it brings us closer to the Lord and brings him glory, then I say....bring it on. So long summer...come back soon!

Catchin' Up with Us MeYeR's

Well, my goodness, it seems like it's been forever since I blogged. Where to start, where to start? ~Big news first, I suppose......we are moving in 2 weeks from yesterday! No, we are NOT packed, no we are NOT ready, no we are NOT going to be ready in time, but moving we ARE!WE have found a house (Praise the LORD), signed a lease (Amen) and will be posting pics (Yippee) soon to let you all know what it looks like, before we move in and clutter it up...LOL!

~More big news, Dad and Mom will arrive Tuesday for a 12 day visit DURING which we will be moving...can you say HECTIC? Mom will be of great help to me with packing and such and Dad will help entertain the boys, so we may just pull this off yet.

~Smaller news, but still good....school is coming along nicely; we took a week off last week, worked really hard this week and I'm hoping to get a full week in this week as well, after that, I think moving chaos will take over for a week or two. Have I mentioned recently that moving makes me insane? If you've forgotten how I feel about moving, check out these posts #1 and #2.

~Have I ever mentioned that I LOVE it here in New Mexico? To be honest, I wasn't sure if I was going to like it when we moved here almost 3 years ago. After living in the lush greenery of northern Illinois for my entire existence, the dull greens and varied browns didn't look like much to me. But what I've come to love about the vegetation in the desert is that they have to work so hard just to stay alive and yet, at just the right time, they bloom so beautifully. It takes my breath away. Reminds me a bit of Dan and I, we struggled so hard, for so long, and just when I was about to give up and resign myself to a life of misery, God picked us up, transplanted us and gave us a new lease on life and now our life is one of those gorgeous flowers *sigh* Along the same lines, I've decided that no sunset on Earth can rival the ones seem from down here.

This is from our yard, taken from our sliding glass doors in the master bedroom. I'll miss that view, but I think we may get something as spectacular at our new place. *Here's hopin*

~Dan is enjoying his weekends off : ) The motorcycle is running well and he's enjoying riding it whenever he can. He's even called a sitter a few times so we can ride together. I LOVE to ride, but will say that I've discovered my limit is about 2 hours. We rode yesterday while looking for houses and ended up being out for about 6 hours. I'm sunburned, just from the nose down on my face, I'm sore and I was HOT with all my riding gear on in the 99* heat. However, I'll not be doing any complaining to him about it, I may not get invited again...LOL!

~Work is going well for both of us, Dan loves working his 4 10 hour days and then having a 3 day weekend. He will be SUPER busy for the next 2 as we prepare for the move, but that's OK, he LOVES that kind of stuff. I have a new boss, not sure if he's going to last or not. I think he's a bit afraid of us. We're a bit wacky and he's pretty uptight. ; ) Plus, I don't think they told him how late we work, HA!

~We are STILL looking at churches, Dan said today he wants to go back to the original church we had been going to, as sort of a comparison to the ones we've been trying. At this point, I'm game if he's wanting to go. So, off we go to Calvary Baptist tomorrow.

I think that's most of the bigger news, so I'll be signing off now. Blessings from NM! Lost Boys, Mama K misses you so much!

Wildy Exciting Week

This week has been a plethora of super highs and extreme lows. Let's see how quickly we can cover them, shall we? I always feel bullet journalling does the trick, so here we go....
  • Dad and Mom will be OFFICIALLY retired at the end of this week and are coming soon for an extended visit (HURRAY) but Ellyn won't be with them as previously planned (BOO)
  • We ARE moving...not sure if that's the good part or the bad part. Both I guess...I don't really want to move, but I am working at finding the good points, like living in a neighborhood again so the boys can make some new friends.
  • We found kittens in the wall...yes, really and the boys and I fell in love with them instantly, but we did the right thing and gave them back to the mama. I miss them already.
  • My Best friend Liz is having a terrible time with her oldest daughter and while I REALLY wish I was in IL so I could 'do something'...I know that I'm better off here caring for my family right now, plus the learning to trust God to handle things is a lesson I need to learn over and over...and over *sigh* I'm so stubborn.
  • Dan and 'Shua are finally one week away from finishing up the side job and will have weekends to relax again...HURRAY! So, they took on another one...LOL! Someday, the two of them will learn to relax : )
  • Game night went well for it's first 'pizza free' night and everyone still seems to love me : ) I enjoyed the extra free time, but missed pizza. However, I really enjoyed having pizza for just us on Saturday. However, that single batch of dough looked soooo small and lonely in the big bowl...LOL!
  • School is going well...and there IS no downside to that : ) As Jodi's days are freeing up, she's coming more and more for school and we are FLYING through the MFW curriculum, and the 3Rs are coming along nicely as well. It's good : )
  • Another bonus, we haven't caught a mouse in almost a week and I'm seeing no evidence of them hiding somewhere. HURRAY HURRAY HURRAY!!!
I guess that covers most of them, so this one turned out shorter than I thought it would be. Yeah! Signing off before I make it any longer...hee hee!

10 Minute Catch UP

Well, hang on to your hats, I'm trying to get you caught up in 10 minutes or less! Oops, hang on~Derek just lost a fight with Rusty...be right back.

I'm back...he's fine; a band-aid and a Jolly Rancher and all is right with the world again : )

Moving on...life is never dull around here, have I mentioned that??

  • Dolli has been here for almost two week and hanging out with her is always fun. She is so vivacious and special. No wonder she's the light of Karen's eyes, not to mention that sweet grand baby! I was even allowed to babysit for an afternoon and like any good great auntie, I filled her up with sugar and covered her in kisses : )

  • School is rolling along well and if we keep at it, we might just have a summer break after all, hurray! My Father's World continues to be a hit and we are wrapping up our time in Germany and heading to Africa soon to study a few countries there. I think next year we will lay aside our beloved ABeka for the older boys and find something a bit more engaging. Derek will be using their Kinder program...Whoa, that was hard to type!

  • Dan and Josh have been working and working and working. They are on day 8 of consecutive work days. Their side job is almost done, just a few more weekends and then they can relax on weekends~ and I'm sure they are looking forward to that.

  • David's gymnastics recital is next week. He is really excited about that! I can't wait to see him do his 'thang' Working at the gym for me is fun and Patrick has started to really enjoy coming along and serving customers and his change making skills are really improving. Derek loves free gym. His favorite is the foam pit where he can jump in to his heart's delight with no danger of hurting himself. : )

  • Let's see...what else? The house is a mess after we all just worked like crazy this weekend. 'Shua, Dan, Lauren and I have all shared a cold/virus something over the past week and it's just a awful. I've never wanted to take my next dose of cold meds early before...it's that bad! But, we are all on the mend now and that's good news!

  • Anywho, I suppose that all the news that IS news around here right now. Take a moment if you will and pray over these things.

1. Dolli's safe return to Cali tomorrow
2. Karen's emotions after Dolli's departure...she always gets so sad when Dolli leaves.
3. Dan and Josh's continued safety on the job and on the drive there and back each day.
4. Continued success with schooling...Pat has come so far this year!"
5. Us finding a new church where we ALL feel right about it.
6. My Dad is retiring next month (Praise the Lord) and I'm HOPING that they will soon be visiting more often and for longer *wink wink, nudge nudge*

A few pictures and I'm out....20 minutes late, but that's life around here!

Blessings,

Kristy and the Man Crew

Check out My Dad...he's FAMOUS!!

Well, he's not exactly a celebrity, but he did get the front page of his church's newsletter! As my parent's Church approaches it's 50th anniversary this summer, it is highlighting some of it's charter members and since my parents have been members for 40 years, they are at the top of the list. Here's a link to the article and lots of fun pictures...for some if you, it could be the first time you see my Dad with lots of black hair...LOL! David was quite impressed with it...ha ha ha!

ENJOY and thanks for taking a peek!!

Dad and Mom come to visit

My parents are here!! Did I mention that I am thrilled about that?! We had an almost uneventful week around here and I managed (after 8 hours at the MVD) to procure a new licence so that I could start my new job at Kohl's. I work the 8 to 12 shift setting up signs for the next day's sales. I may eventually get too tired to function, but for now it's fun. Dan keeps the kids while I am gone so no child care costs...thank you Jesus! School went really well this week, but with Dad and Mom here, we may lose a few days. That's OK, family is important and the work will still be there later. Did I mention that I'm thrilled that my parents are here? Jodi seems to be sure about moving here in the fall and I'm pretty pleased about that, too! Anywho~ I've checked in at the other blogs and it seems that everyone's life is doing alright for the moment. I am glad that everyone is well and healthy. I need to scoot, much visiting to cram into the next 6 days! We are missing everyone and can't wait the to them during the much anticipated trip this June...cross your fingers...LOL! Lost Boys, Mama K loves you! Everyone else...hoping to see you soon!

Love to all,

Kristy and the Man Crew

PS. I think that I haven't posted pics of Dan's new tats yet so here they are...Chicago and the 3 crosses are for our hometown and our new town (the city symbol for Las Cruces is 3 crosses) and the other is just turning his tribal into an armband...they both look good on him and he is really enjoying them...he may turn into a tatoo freak yet...oh, dear!
PSS. I got my nose re-pierced..ouchie!...but this one turned out much better.
