The Best Thing I've Heard All Week

A brilliant friend of mine called her new boyfriend a 'gentleman savage' on Facebook this week, and it struck a chord in me. It...

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY...June 13, 2012

Outside my window...the sun shines brightly as clouds float past lazily and the temps soar up near 100*. The pool is glittering and calm. The huge tree gives us shade, a place to put a swing and shelter from any rain that might come along.

I am thinking...that nap time/quiet time is often my favorite time of day.

I am thankful...for a summer job that allows me to still be with my kiddos, help our bottom line AND have a little fun all at once.

In the kitchen...there are chicken breasts in the crock pot and brown rice waiting in the fridge to be heated once I get back home. Now that I'm working 50 hours a week, I'm doing most of my prep work on Sunday so that when I get home in the evening, dinner just needs to be heated up.

I am wearing...my lazy day clothes. Navy knit capris, and an over sized hot pink Minnesota shirt.

I am creating...nothing this week. Sad, but true

I am going...to and from day camp, literacy camp, music camp, the park and the gym. Phew, no wonder I'm tired.

I am wondering...if kids really NEED all the 'camps' parents seem to think they do.

I am reading...Philippians, "Unclaimed Baggage", "Taste of Home", and the grocery circulars (do they count?)

I am hoping...that I survive this super crazy busy week and can re-group next week.

I am looking forward to...going home tonight and not doing anything else. (goodness, I sound lazy this week)

I am learning...that homeschooling is even more flexible that I used to think. That love stretches, no matter how hard it's tested, and that you DO make time for the things that are important to you.

Around the house...David has been home sick for 3 days now, and when I'm getting home at night, I'm just dropping, so honestly, it's pretty messy. Tonight I need to catch up on some dishes, actually read the mail, and sweep a few floors.

I am pondering...nothing. I'm too tired and I don't have the brain power. *winks*

A favorite quote for today..."Pretending to be someone you're not is a waste of the person you are."
- Kurt Cobain (not a fan of K. Cobain, but saw this on a friend's FB wall and thought it was good.)

One of my favorite things...home, home, home. (can you tell I'm missing being at home?)

A few plans for the rest of the week: Surviving. That's my grand plan.

A peek into my day...Yup, that's my 6 year old. ; )

It's the Little Things

I've discovered as I make this journey through life that it's not the huge things that make or break your day, week, month or life. It's the little things. So in honor of the little things, list a few with me that made your day, week, month or life brighter or sweeter.
  • It's enjoying Monday as a fresh new start to the week.
  • It's  a basket of clothes from the dryer, still warm.
  • It's plenty of freezer-friendly casseroles to fill our bellies even when I can't be home in time to cook dinner.
  • It's 6 kids that all get along well and play together nicely.
  • It's Band camp, Literacy camp, Summer Reading Programs, an "I'm Bored' jar full of ideas, and a pool :)
  • It's an air-conditioned car for trips across town.

I like the idea of this style of post. If you like it too, add your little things! I'm making it a goal to focus on the positive this year...Join me!
