The Best Thing I've Heard All Week

A brilliant friend of mine called her new boyfriend a 'gentleman savage' on Facebook this week, and it struck a chord in me. It...

SCORE!! Thanks April!

Just wanted to say thanks to my friend April Rogers who helped me score a SUPER great deal a few weeks ago. She shared a link to a page (that I can no longer remember the name of, sorry) that shares good deals from everywhere so other Mamas can get a great deal also. At any rate, the deal of that day was to order composition notebooks online from Wal-Mart, pick them up at the store and pay the bargain price of 40 cents per 5 notebooks! I ordered the max of 12 sets and after a few frustrating moments at the store where the person behind the counter didn't seem to understand that I was supposed to be picking up 60 notebooks, not 12, I actually ended up at home with 65 notebooks for $5.12! So thanks April, I've got enough notebooks to last until Derek gets to high school. Hurray!!

Fall Into Reading 2011

It's that time again each year as the weather gets cooler, days get shorter, life is following a more predictable routine (at least in theory) and there is more time, and more desire to curl up with a warm drink, a cozy blanket and travel the world courtesy of a good book. So, make your list and join me as I link up with the friends over at www.callipidderdays.com/2011/09/fall-into-reading-2011-start-reading.html Pick a few books, or a pile, or whatever you think you can manage and join the fun. The party started on Sept 23 and runs through the end of December. Post a blog with your list and then link up to see what everyone else is reading, what adventures they are having and such. Here is my list, in no particular order : )
  • My Father's World curriculum books. I know that required reading, but it still needs to get done, so I might as well make it more fun, right?? Included with that, I'll be reading the recommended books that come along with Pat's lesson plans. *the total of these books will be counted as 5*
  • I bought a large box of books off of eBay to compliment our History of the World book 1. There are about 20 in there, however, most of them are less than 5th grade reading level, so I can probably polish them off in just a few hours, so I'm only counting them as one. ; )
  • I won a gift package that had 2 magazines in it, called Ladies Journal (Not to be confused with Ladies HOME Journal) and Where Women Cook. Can't wait to dig into those!
  • Also in the package were 2 books called More Than A Good Bible Study Girl (looks great) and Made From Scratch which is about homesteading. : )
  • The Debt
  • World Magazine to keep up with current events with the BIGS for school. Love this magazine, keeps us up to date on everything happening in the world, and with a Christian worldview~ LOVE IT
  • A few Christmas books, like A Christmas Carol, Christmas in the Big Woods, The Gift of the Magi, The Night Before Christmas and such. Plus the children's books that they love so much.
  • Fireman Dad, Love Finds a Home, Doctor Right, Rancher's Promise, Family by Design, and The Cowboys Homecoming

I think that's it for now. I'll add to this as I finish books and decide if I have more time. Fall into Reading with me!
Blessings, ~Kristy~

Just a Random Picture Post

Sometimes, ya just gotta post some pics. No big story behind them, just random life snapshots. So enjoy.
It's amazing what passes for entertainment around here sometimes, LOL! Pat was being a robber with an mandarin oranges mesh bag on his head, what goose!
Dan has been polishing up a storm for his gas pump project. SO SO shiney!
Story time before nap time. Derek isn't 'really' reading yet, but he loves to read a story to Mr. T before he goes down for a nap.
And here is Mr. T, sleeping with the fishes. : ) Yes, I know I'm a dork. I can't help myself.
Sand Art. Derek has been looking forward to this project for quite some time. And we FINALLY made it this week, hurray!!

Pretty Pretty

We are always so grateful for 'real rain' here in the desert. You know, not the kind that pours down for 2 minutes and is dried up in 5. But a REAL thunderstorm, complete with pouring rain, lightning, thunder and in this case, enough to flood the street so the boys could sail a toy boat down the side of the road. Better even than that, a lovely rainbow to remind us of God's goodness. Wow, just wow.

Catching Up With Us MeYeRs

Greeting from sunny and still HOT New Mexico : ) Actually, it's cooled down in the past few weeks and is only getting into the low 90s most days now. What a relief, right?? Just wanted to pop through, say hey and catch you up on the activities of the Man Crew from the past few weeks.
~Dan is still unemployed, but remains the busiest unemployed man I know. Building fences to keep in a friend's doggies, refurbishing a set of old fashioned gas pumps with another friend, helping people move, refinishing doors for the gym, driving and fixing the dune buggy, teaching a shop/auto repair class for David and Patrick, and keeping us all laughing in between all those activities.
~David started high school 2 weeks ago and is not sure whether he likes it yet or not. He's a bit overwhelmed by making so many of his own choices, I think. But we are almost done putting together his syllabus for this year, and he is looking forward to digging in. He's starting to gear up for competitive season with gymnastics, and is putting in long hours of practice each week. His routines are starting to come together and he's quite pleased with his own progress, as are we.
~Patrick is just starting his 7th grade year and is not sure how he feels about not having classmates this year as David is using a different curriculum this year, and James is no longer joining us for school. We have just been 'warming up' this past week or two, practicing our math facts, brushing up on our geography skills, writing dictation sentences, reading to Derek and Titus, and partaking in Daddy's shop class. He grumbles but I think is glad for the return of a more regular schedule. : )
~Derek is about to start first grade and we have spent hours each day reading, playing games, and watching educational videos, along with much outdoor play. The birthday bike is a fave and gets many hours of use each week. In fact, he's the only kid I know that can manage a jump off a ramp on a bike with training wheels, LOL! He's my biggest helper in the kitchen and LOVES to help with bread, pizza and chopping veggies.
~I always hate posting things about myself. I'm the same, LOL! Boring. Working at home, working at the gym, working at Kohls, driving the Mama taxi, and enjoying my family.
That's about it, I guess. Nothing much else to report. Karen is settling in well at her new place just around the corner from us : ) Jodi is off camping with the boys this weekend, Dad and Mom are off gallivanting across the countryside (and Praise the Lord for Dad's health to allow that again) and all the news from Mike and Kelly's house sounds like everything is hunky and dory. Oh, Flat Stanley is here for a visit, so we need to take him out and about to show off our great state!
Hope everyone is having a great, super blessed week! Call, write or come on by and see us sometime! We'd love to have you!

Hair cuts for the New School Year

Well, it's that time again. Time to cut off all the summer hair and get back to looking like we own a pair of scissors, LOL! All the boys were ready, at least right up to the time I actually got out said scissors :)

Derek, Before and After His Buzz Cut

Patrick refused to cooperate for before OR after pics, so this is the best I could do. He only got a trim anyway, so it's not much different, but he IS fond of his highlights

David was the one fussing for a haircut the most, but in the middle starting asking if I was cutting off all his good looks, LOL! What a goof, he looks good either way.
Well, I guess that's the long and short of it anyway, unless you're looking for a good laugh and want to enjoy this one...

Dan had been painting with primer all afternoon, this was the aftermath *giggles*

A New Bike for the Littlest Meyer

Thanks Nana, Auntie Karen, Cousin Hayley and everyone else who gave Derek birthday money. He finally decided yesterday on a bike he's been eyeballin' for a few weeks now. It's red, SUPER fast and all his : ) Thank you, thank you, thank you!
